One of the country’s leading providers of cyber security and other IT solutions recently moved its offices in Richmond, VA, to a new location. The new space is a renovated warehouse with a large presentation room surrounded by numerous smaller conference rooms.

The challenge

Warehouse spaces tend to be louder because most of the elements in the space are hard surfaces, preventing sound from being absorbed. Soon after occupancy, office management realized the noise problem and knew they needed a treatment for better acoustics. The ceiling in the new space was open, giving Armstrong the opportunity to provide a solution. After testing the noise, the acoustical calculations showed that the reverberation time in the space was very high.

The solution

INVISACOUSTICS surface mount panels were chosen because they maintained the integrity of the room’s open ceiling design while quieting the space. These panels were selected because they are ideal for use when retrofitting and making acoustical corrections to existing spaces, the fine-textured panels measure 2' x 4' in size, are available in white and black, and can be field-painted to match existing ceiling or wall surfaces.

The black panels blend in with the existing structure, while also providing the desired sound absorption. To maintain the open look that office management desired and to maximize ceiling height, the panels were installed between the i-beams and directly to the exposed ceiling.
