Drop Ceilings With Moisture Resistance

Drop Ceilings With Moisture Resistance

Gone are the days of saggy, old ceilings, when you choose moisture resistant ceiling tiles from Armstrong Ceilings. When moisture and humidity are bringing you and your ceiling down, try one of our many solutions.

What is moisture resistance and why is it important?

Air always has some degree of moisture content, although in many instances, no special considerations are needed for this aspect of a ceiling tile’s properties. In some instances, an area with a high humidity will require a tile designed to withstand this. Please note that no tile is actually waterproof, although there are tiles that are designed to withstand a high level of humidity and as such are best suited to shower areas, swimming pools, salons & kitchens etc.

Many ceiling tiles that are not designed to withstand a high humidity can be adversely affected by the moisture in the air, causing a gradual weakening of their structure. Over time, this will inevitably cause a distortion of their shape which can often result in the ceiling no longer looking level and flat. In extreme cases, tiles may visibly sag and may even fall out of the gridwork.

What moisture resistance is not

A common misconception for the term “moisture resistant” is that it means waterproof. That is not the case, especially when it comes to ceiling tiles.

The difference between moisture-resistant and waterproof is that water-resistant material is so tightly woven that water struggles to get through. Waterproof, on the other hand, means the product has a complete barrier to water.

Traits of “moisture-resistance” our ceiling tiles offer:

Mold and Mildew Resistance

Mold and mildew can appear in areas of your business or home wherever moisture is present, and ventilation is limited. Some spaces susceptible to this are basements and bathrooms in any home, healthcare facilities, commercial kitchens, clean rooms, and restaurants.

Specially-treated moisture resistant ceilings not only stop the spread of mold and mildew, but can also inhibit the growth of mold, odor, and stain-causing bacteria on the treated surface.

Some of our products that have this trait are:

Armstrong KITCHEN ZONE

Armstrong KITCHEN ZONE ceiling tiles are more affordable, lighter weight, and have more pieces per carton vs. vinyl-covered gypsum options. Tiles also meet USDA/FSIS guidelines.

Armstrong CLEAN ROOM VL

The Armstrong CLEAN ROOM VL ceilings absorb sound and are washable, scrubbable, soil-resistant, and meet all USDA/FSIS and controlled environment guidelines.

CERAMAGUARD

Super durable with superior moisture resistance, CERAMAGUARD ceiling tiles work great in specialty areas prone to high humidity like pools or spas.

Sag and Humidity Resistance

There's only one thing worse than a damaged or stained ceiling: a saggy, damaged or stained drop ceiling. In areas of high humidity, it's important to choose a moisture resistant ceiling tile that will remain flat. Some ceilings are safe to use in non-climate-controlled or high humidity spaces, which means they will stand up to common humid conditions.

Tiles with this trait will maintain their form in humid conditions and are ideal for indoor spaces that aren't temperature-controlled all of the time, but not up to 100% humidity.

Some of our products that have this trait are:

TECTUM Lay-In and Tegular

TECTUM ceiling panels are highly sustainable and durable, providing noise control for many different spaces like pools and gyms. Panels can be painted up to 6 times without affecting acoustical and fire performance.

ARMSTRONG Ultima Health Zone

Smooth-textured ULTIMA Health Zone ceiling tiles meet USDA/FSIS guidelines for use in food preparation areas, kitchens, and Clean Room assemblies, are water-repellent, and provide excellent sound absorption and blocking to help address HIPAA requirements.

TUNDRA

Durable TUNDRA ceiling panels have a medium-textured visual, and are impact- and scratch-resistant.
